David Henderson is a civil rights attorney who fights for sexual assault survivors. If you have been sexually assaulted or harassed at work, David has spent his entire career preparing for your case.

Most survivors do not just face what happened to them — they face employers who minimize it, institutions that protect themselves, and processes designed to wear them down. David built his career learning how those defenses work — and how to break through them in court.

His commitment to survivors began in law school, where he worked in a domestic violence clinic representing survivors of abuse. It deepened over nearly a decade as a prosecutor in the Special Crimes Division of the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office, where sexual assault cases were the core of his docket. He tried dozens of sexual assault cases to verdict, securing significant convictions. Because of that work, the Texas District and County Attorneys Association invited him to train other prosecutors across the state. He has delivered trial skills training to thousands of prosecutors and law enforcement officers statewide.

David now brings that experience to bear as a civil rights attorney in federal and state courts across the country, representing survivors against the individuals and institutions responsible for the harm. Over the course of his career, he has tried more than 70 jury cases to verdict, with several resolving for seven and eight-figures.

His cases have changed the law. In Hamilton v. Dallas County, the full Fifth Circuit took his case en banc and reversed decades of precedent, expanding Title VII protections for workers across the circuit. In Carr v. City of Fort Worth, he represented the young boy who witnessed the fatal police shooting of his aunt, Atatiana Jefferson, resulting in a $3.5 million settlement approved unanimously by the City Council.

David has been recognized by Lawdragon as one of the 500 Leading Civil Rights & Plaintiff Employment Lawyers in the United States every year since 2022, when he dedicated his practice to representing survivors of sexual abuse and civil rights violations. He serves on the boards of the ACLU of Texas and the Institute to Combat Human Trafficking. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Texas School of Law, where he teaches voir dire and working with traumatized witnesses in Trial Skills for the New Millennium. His writing on civil rights and systemic injustice has been published in the Washington Post, Newsweek, and Trial Magazine. He has served as a contributor to CNBC and has appeared across NBC network programming, where his cases and analysis have been featured

In 2010, David was named World Champion of Public Speaking by Toastmasters International, selected from more than 30,000 competitors representing 113 countries.
